Everday I spent between 2 and 5 hours at The Super G hosting my ongoing project “Color Wheelz“. Many Super G patrons enjoyed participating. Some of the visual and audio clips are below:

I spent 5 days with Chris Thomas’s Color Theory class at UNCG. We collected colorful garbage from all over town then designed and installed an installation out of it. We focused on basic color theory principles like Simultaneous contrast, Reflective color and Spacial Color. The students, Chris and I built the installation in a very impressive 4 days….I was very impressed!

A series of street stencils I made out of found sand. I used a theory called simultaneous contrast to play with the way color appeared, and used words to further explore meaning of words we use to describe color. I incorporated the names of local streets into the stencils design.

The Super G is a 60,000 square ft. international food mart located in Greensboro, NC.

Inside the supermarket is an equally grand flea market. The flea market is open everyday and hosts a variety of vendors. Each vendor has a little shops -selling goods and services.

Donovan McKnight and Lee Walton have turned one of the shops into a “residency space”. This space can act as a central hub for exploring the Super G, an actual site for social engagement, a temporary resource for the public, or simply a place to sit and do nothing. So far, all residents have been immediately taken in as “family” amongst the vendors. Its very similar to moving into a very small and welcoming neighborhood.

Resident groups range from professionals and amateurs in a vast variety of disciplines from musicians, architects, poets, yoga masters, carpenters, anthropologists, chefs, athletes, and more.

I spent three weeks in Greensboro working on several projects inside the Super G Market, at the UNCG campus and other locations around town. The projects are listed under the tabs above.
